Our First Holy Communion

Posted by: | May 18, 2009 | No Comment |

On Saturday May 16th we made our First Holy Communion. We practised very hard all week for the mass. At the beginning of mass everybody in the class walked up the church in twos. Every child in the class had a job to do. Threre were connection prayers, prayers of the faithful, a reading, the offertory commentary, singers and bringing up the gifts. We received Jesus in our heart for the first time in our lives. We were all very happy when we made our communion. Fr. Mc Crann did a nice mass. Near the end of the mass our parents handed over our baptismal candles to us and the choir sang “This Little Light of Mine”. The school choir sang nice songs at the mass. The choir’s singing was very good. Mrs. Mc Nulty played the organ and our principal Mrs. Clarke conducted the choir. We all wore dresses and suits. Afterwards we all got our photographs taken. Russ our class bear came into the photograph with us. We all got small prayer books.

After the communion mass we went to the school hall for the party. The Parents’ Association and the parents of first class and third class organised the party. At the party there was lots of sweets and goodies. We had our photographs taken. We cut our special communion cake near the end of the party. We presented some gifts to the teachers. We had great fun. Then we all went home to have our own party.

Grandparents Day

Some of our pupils with their grandparents

Today was Grandparents Day in our school. Some of our grandparents came into the school. It was great fun because we got to meet other people’s grandparents. Fr. Mc Crann said a special mass in the school hall. The choir sang lovely new songs. One of the grannies did a reading. Each class made up a prayer thanking God for the gift of our grandparents and read it at the mass. Some children brought up gifts that belonged to their grandparents. We prayed for our grandparents that have died. Some children made flowers to remember their dead grandparents and we put the flowers upon a notice board.

After the mass grandparents had coffee, tea and cake in the hall. Some of the grandparents came down to our classroom. They told us about life when they were young. They told us about how they made a wooden cart. They told us about clothes they wore when they were young. They used to play with skipping ropes, marbles and hopscotch. Then a photographer came in to take photos of grandparents with their grandchildren for the newspaper. Grandparents Day was fantastic and we really enjoyed it.

Artefacts Day

Posted by: | May 8, 2009 | No Comment |

On Friday 24th April, everybody from the class brought in an artefact. An artefact is a very old thing. It was very interesting to find out what people had in the old days. We found out all about old things. Each person went up to the top of the class and told us about their artefact. We knew what some of the things were but we didn’t know what some of the other things were. Some of the things that we brought in were: bells, pictures, books, a cream pot, old money, a veil, a bomb shell, a tape, a bracelet, a storm light, a school bell, an old teddy, an old watch, a necklace, a crios, a plate, a fossil, a silver cup,  an old clock an iron and an egg cup.

Gaelic Training

Posted by: | April 30, 2009 | No Comment |

Every Wednesday we do Gaelic Training. Our coaches names are Kealan, Gillian and Brian. Yesterday one of the games was where we had to drag ourselves using only our legs. It was tricky. We also practised our solos. Another one of the games was where we had to put a bean bag onto one of our feet and balance it while hopping. In another game we had to put the bean bag on our head and walk to the other cone. If you dropped the bean bag you had to start again.  It is fun.

Russ – Our Class Bear

Posted by: | April 30, 2009 | No Comment |

Russ is our class bear. He has nice clothes: a green and brown stripey scarf; a green silky waterproof jacket; blue jeans; a brown hat; a purple, green, white, navy and brown stripey woolly sleevless jumper; a pair of brown woolly gloves to match his hat; brown suade boots. He has light brown fur on his body. He is 26cm tall. Every day someone from the class takes him home. We pull a name out of a box and that person brings Russ home. Four people have brought Russ home so far. If you bring him home you can’t feed him chicken curry because he doesn’t like it. He’s not allowed to watch too much TV. He is not allowed to travel out of Ireland. Whenever you bring him home you must write about what you did with Russ. He is really cool.
